The Finnish Shoe Retailers Association was founded in 1917 and is one of the
oldest commercial organizations in Finland, working for the economic and
ethical interests of shoe retailers. The Association has nearly 250 members,
whose 400 retail outlets are nationwide.
Some 18 million pairs of shoes are sold in Finland each year, representing an
annual turnover of approximately 2,000 million Finn Marks. Shoe consumption
per person is estimated at 3 pairs per year, with 1,2 of these three pairs
made of leather. 86 % of the shoes on the market are imported.
All the functions of the Association are aimed at improving the situation of
shoe retailers. It ensures that their interests are taken into account and
that trade development is healthy. It represents a uniting body for shoe
retailers, and promotes professional skills among its members.
Members are kept informed about cost trends, sales developments, trade
legislation and other matters through bimonthly magazine, circulars and
bilateral contacts.
